Fish ladders are incorporated into new hydroelectric schemes and retrofitted into some older ones. Efforts to reduce any potentially harmful impacts are now standard practice in many parts of the world. The accidental electrocution of birds and bats is rare. But those companies who must plan to minimise such potential accidents must have teams who are well versed in the local and national legislation and any Endangered Species Acts which may fall within the jurisdiction of any developments. Pollution control opportunities can be found within the government and state environmental control departments and within most sizable businesses where there is a need to scrutinise and risk manage any potential for pollution. Wind farms and any other proposed Renewable Energy developments are now expected to provide extremely thorough EIAs before they have any chance of planning approval.
