BRE's Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) is used to assess the environmental performance of both new and existing buildings. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, and is the US Green Building Council's voluntary National Certificate Program that recognises and encourages environmental leadership in the building industry. Solar technologies such as photovoltaic and solar thermal will play a vital role in the solution for the greener buildings of tomorrow. Specifying drought tolerant succulents such as Sedum species allows 'living roofs' to replace conventional roofing materials with organic material grown on site.
