Job Description:
Harvard University has a new opportunity for an experienced Energy Auditor who will develop and manage an array of building energy audit programs. This is an ideal position for an individual who would like to advance our institutional commitment to energy efficiency and sustainability while staying informed of the latest technologies and advancements in the field. The Auditor will manage the full audit life cycle, and partner with an array of customers to identify and reduce the environmental impact of our campus buildings and activities.

Specific duties include:

1. Develops, manages and continuously refines UOS/OFS building energy audit programs, procedures and work processes to identify energy reduction projects and resource minimization strategies to reduce the environmental impact of campus buildings and activities.

2. Conducts interviews with building management staff to review documents (i.e., drawings, equipment inventories, recent maintenance activities, major project plans), document occupancy use schedules and trends, and learn building performance characteristics.

3. Analyzes historical energy use and consumption patterns. Identifies anomalies and researches causes as required. Compares historical patterns to determine energy use intensity, targets for improvement, and eligibility for LEEDŽ EBOM certification.

4. Performs thermal imaging surveys of building envelope, electrical panels, other areas or equipment as needed. Conducts air balancing tests and related field inspections of critical equipment. Oversees the installation and use of temporary metering and electrical measurement equipment. Trends performance results and develops recommendations for improvements in operation or equipment.

5. Develops detailed Energy Conservation Recommendations based on inspections and measurements of building performance. Works with OFS staff to ensure accurate Life Cycle Cost analysis, Return on Investment calculations, and applicable utilities rebate or incentive programs for all recommendations.

6. Performs calculations to forecast peak load requirements for primary building equipment including mechanical and electrical systems. Develops preliminary strategies or alternatives to address deficient conditions.

7. Prepares reports with detailed findings, meeting ASHRAE Level II requirements for specific energy performance modeling and testing, as well as established department standards. Finalizes report following established internal review process.

8. Presents reports and findings to customers, review energy analysis methods and recommendations, prepare follow-up action plan for implementation or FMO/OFS support of recommendations.

Retro-Commissioning and Building Certification Programs


1. Develops and continuously refines FMO/OFS retro-commissioning and certification programs, including LEEDŽ EBOM. Serves as primary technical lead in the performance or oversight of all retro-commissioning field activities, including measurement and documentation of system performance, review of equipment Sequence of Operation, Testing and Balancing reports, and related inspections.

2. Prepare reports with detailed findings and corrective strategies as required.

3. Assists building management teams with implementation of corrective actions required for optimization of building performance and/or successful certification.

Owner Services Program (OSP) Support

OSP is offered to renovation and new construction project managers to help achieve the following objectives:

ˇ Ensure Harvard receives what was purchased under the MEP scope of the project, including quality of installation work and system performance/functionality.
ˇ Ensure ongoing engagement of the design team throughout the project, including equipment start-up, problem-solving, and acceptance.
ˇ Facilitate transition to the post-occupancy operations, including establishment of an ongoing preventive maintenance program.

1. Contributes to the development of proposals for new OSP projects.

2. Participates in project and development meetings as FMO representative and collaborates with other UOS groups for OSP services. Documents deficiencies and other findings of periodic project inspections using established OSP templates and work processes.

3. Prepares building operating procedures to support energy efficiency goals of post-construction occupancy as part of OSP turnover packages.

Performs related duties as required.
Required Skills:
We seek an individual with two years experience performing comprehensive energy audits (ASHRAE Level II) of commercial or institutional facilities. Must also possess a minimum of 5 years experience in building operations or maintenance. Current LEED accreditation required, and must possess AEE Certified Energy Auditor (CEA) credentials or be able to achieve certification within first 90 days of employment.
