Job Description

Purpose of the role:

To support the Consents Team through all phases of the consenting process and for all elements of current and future tidal lagoons. The focus will be on gaining development consent as required for a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project under the Planning Act 2008, and also any associated permissions required under TCPA 1990.

The successful candidate will have excellent written and spoken English, strong organisation skills; and be adept at working within a team (and self-starting) to deliver common goals. The successful candidate will have 1-2 years’ post-qualification experience and an RTPI-accredited degree (working towards becoming a full member of the RTPI) or other relevant qualification is expected.

Key responsibilities & accountabilities:

The successful candidate will support the Consents Team, and report to the Head of Consents. Responsibilities will include:

  • Analysing and disseminating information;
  • Data management;
  • Stakeholder management and engagement;
  • Conducting and reporting research for use in the planning team and wider business;
  • Production of reports and information for the planning process, general communications, and other business critical uses related to planning;
  • Briefing the planning team and the wider business on planning matters;
  • Advising the public and other stakeholders on the planning process and proposed development(s);
  • Print management of application documents;
  • Management of notices relating to applications;
  • Liaising with other internal teams (e.g. environment, engineering, engagement);
  • Aiding in the management of consultants.

Essential knowledge

  • General knowledge of UK planning systems;
  • General knowledge of the principles of Environmental Impact Assessment;
  • General knowledge of the infrastructure and/or renewable energy industries;
  • Awareness of marine planning matters.

Desirable knowledge

  • The Planning Act 2008;
  • National Policy Statements EN-1 and EN-3;
  • The Town & Country Planning Act 1990;
  • Marine planning in England and Wales;
  • The Welsh planning system.
